Audric Estime will be out for at least a month after the Denver Broncos put their rookie running back on injured reserve Wednesday night because of an ankle injury.
The fifth-round draft pick from Notre Dame had two carries for 14 yards in the Broncos’ 26-20 loss to Seattle on Sunday. He fumbled on his first carry after jumping over a defender.
He can return to the active roster for the Broncos’ game against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 6.
Estime had minor arthroscopic knee surgery last summer, which caused him to miss OTAs and the team’s mandatory minicamp in June.
He performed well during training camp and contributed to making the Broncos’ running backs, including Javonte Williams and Jaleel McLaughlin, a strong part of the team.
The Broncos promoted fullback Michael Burton from their practice squad and signed receiver Kaden Davis to the practice squad on Wednesday.
During the portion of practice open to the media, Estime was on a side field with four other injured offensive players. This was a big change from last week when there were no players on Denver’s injury report before their opener.
Left tackle Garett Bolles (calf), center Luke Wattenberg (ankle), wide receivers Josh Reynolds (Achilles), and Devaughn Vele (ribs) also missed practice.
