Broncos wide receiver Josh Reynolds was injured in a shooting early last Friday in Denver. The team confirmed the incident, reporting that Reynolds sustained minor injuries and received prompt medical treatment. Out of respect for the ongoing investigation, the Broncos have refrained from making further comments, deferring to law enforcement for any additional updates.
The shooting occurred near South Quebec Street and East Union Avenue, where police responded to several 911 calls reporting gunfire. Reynolds was shot twice, with injuries to his left arm and the back of his head. After being treated at a local hospital, he was discharged and has since resumed attending team activities at the Broncos’ facility, although he is currently on injured reserve due to a recent finger surgery.
The incident reportedly began after Reynolds and two companions left a Glendale strip club, Shotgun Willie’s, around 2:45 a.m. Friday. Reynolds and one of his friends left the club in an SUV, later reporting to police that they were followed by multiple vehicles. Shots were fired during the pursuit, and the SUV eventually broke down on Interstate 25, forcing Reynolds and his companion to exit the vehicle.
Police later found the abandoned SUV riddled with bullet holes, evidence of the extensive gunfire aimed at them. A third individual, who was not in the SUV, sustained minor injuries from broken glass but was not struck by bullets. Police launched an investigation and soon after arrested two men connected to the incident.
The suspects, Burr Charlesworth, 42, and Luis Mendoza, 35, were detained and are now under investigation for attempted first-degree murder and first-degree assault. Investigators revealed that Mendoza reportedly followed Reynolds and his friends after they left the club. Authorities are still working to determine the motive behind the shooting, and the Broncos organization has deferred to police statements as the case progresses.
