Another year, another Watt brother bids farewell to football.
Last year, it was J.J. This year, it’s Derek. He has shared his goodbye to the game on social media.
Derek entered the NFL as a sixth-round pick of the Chargers in 2016, following in the footsteps of his older brother J.J. and preceding his younger brother T.J. He spent four years with the Chargers and three with the Steelers, where he played alongside T.J.
With Derek sitting out the 2023 season, his retirement doesn’t come as a surprise. Nonetheless, it marks the end of an era for him, prompting him to embrace what Steelers coach Chuck Noll referred to as his “life’s work.”
The Watt brothers’ collective achievements in the NFL are undeniably impressive. As T.J. continues his career, he is on track to build a resume that could earn him a spot in the Hall of Fame, alongside J.J.
