Running back Derrick Henry’s decision to join the Ravens this week wasn’t a spur-of-the-moment choice. The Ravens had pursued him before, attempting to trade for him before last season’s trade deadline, as confirmed by Ravens General Manager Eric DeCosta during a press conference marking Henry’s signing on Thursday.
While no deal materialized with the Titans at that time, Henry himself believed there was a strong possibility of a move last October.
Henry’s familiarity with the Ravens, coupled with their style of play, influenced his decision during free agency.
“This is where I knew I wanted to be. I love the style and the physicality that they play within all three phases.
It’s my style of play as well. It was a no-brainer, just trying to figure out the business side of things, and glad we were able to get it figured out.”
While the Ravens weren’t among the teams pushing for an extension of the trade deadline, Henry’s situation might have taken a different turn with more time. The Titans’ subsequent losses after the deadline may have altered their perspective on Henry’s future with the team.
Although contemplating what could have been is intriguing, the focus now is on Henry’s arrival in Baltimore, where the Ravens are optimistic about their prospects for the upcoming season, aiming to overcome formidable opponents like the Chiefs and emerge victorious in the AFC.
