Deshaun Watson, the quarterback for the Cleveland Browns, has been ruled out of the team’s preseason finale against the Seattle Seahawks, as announced on Saturday. This marks a change from the original plan laid out by Coach Kevin Stefanski, who had previously indicated that Watson and all other starters would play in the game.
The decision to sideline Watson follows a week in which he was limited during Wednesday’s practice due to “general arm soreness,” as described by Stefanski. Despite this, Watson was reported to be a full participant in Thursday’s practice, though it was not open to the media. The team appears to be taking a cautious approach to his recovery.
Stefanski has downplayed concerns over Watson’s arm, pointing out that the quarterback has consistently participated in training camp, missing only one practice. Watson has not seen any game action since undergoing surgery on his throwing shoulder last November, which ended his season prematurely.
In Watson’s absence, backup quarterback Jameis Winston is expected to take the reins for the preseason finale. The Browns are gearing up for their season opener on September 8, where they will face the Dallas Cowboys at home.
