Nebraska women’s basketball faced a challenging week, suffering both an on-court loss to Creighton and a significant player injury. Despite these setbacks, the team remained in the AP Top 25, dropping four spots to No. 25. This marks their continued presence in the rankings throughout the season, including the preseason poll. The Huskers’ recent ranking of No. 21 had been their highest since the 2022-23 season.
The loss to in-state rival Creighton was notable as the Bluejays earned votes in the AP poll for the first time this season following the upset. Creighton has shown resilience, balancing wins against Drake and Nebraska with losses to South Dakota State and No. 9 Kansas State. Meanwhile, Nebraska also suffered a key setback with the loss of Natalie Potts to an ACL injury during their victory over North Alabama, sidelining the starter for the rest of the season.
At 5-1, Nebraska remains competitive in the Big Ten, tied with Michigan and Wisconsin. The conference is well-represented in the AP Top 25, featuring top-ranked UCLA and several other highly-ranked teams like Maryland, Ohio State, and Illinois. Nebraska holds its spot among these teams, with other Big Ten schools like Michigan and Indiana receiving votes.
Nationally, UCLA’s rise to No. 1 came after a major win over South Carolina, which dropped to No. 4. The rankings highlight the strength of the SEC, which includes seven ranked teams, and strong representation from conferences like the ACC and Big 12. UConn remains at No. 2 as the sole Big East representative, showcasing the diverse competition across women’s basketball this season.
Looking ahead, Nebraska will return to Pinnacle Bank Arena to face Kansas City on Tuesday before taking a brief holiday break. Their next matchup, against Lindenwood on Dec. 3, offers an opportunity for the Huskers to regroup and continue their strong start to the season despite recent challenges.
