The Detroit Pistons are searching for fresh leadership after ending the NBA season with the lowest record for the second consecutive year.
On Monday, following a 14-68 season finish, the Pistons declared their intention to hire a head of basketball operations who will answer directly to team owner Tom Gores.
“This past season has been extremely tough and disappointing for our fans, players, and the entire organization,” Gores stated. “We will keep investing in our young core group of players and surround them with the right supporting talent.”
The Pistons aim to build around youthful players like Cade Cunningham, Jalen Duren, and Jaden Ivey, who are all under 22 years old, to bring back pride to a franchise with three NBA championships.
The team has confirmed that general manager Troy Weaver and the basketball staff will retain their positions, despite Weaver’s 74-244 record over four years with the team.
“I am determined to do whatever it takes to construct a winning team,” Gores emphasized. “We are open to all possibilities. Despite the challenges of this season, there is a promising future ahead of us. We can make this right, and we will. This summer is crucial for the Pistons.”
