Atlético Madrid manager Diego Simeone has seemingly made a pitch to Real Madrid’s Luka Modric, inviting the veteran midfielder to join him at the Wanda Metropolitano next season.
With just four months remaining on his contract at Real Madrid, Modric’s tenure at the Santiago Bernabeu is drawing to a close after a remarkable career. The 38-year-old Croatian has amassed 514 appearances for Los Blancos, securing 23 major trophies along with the prestigious Ballon d’Or award.
Despite his storied history with Real Madrid, Modric has found himself in a more limited role under Carlo Ancelotti this season, featuring as a rotational player in just 10 of 18 La Liga matches.
In the recent Madrid derby against Atletico, Modric didn’t start but came on as a substitute in the 76th minute. During the match, Simeone reportedly took the opportunity to exchange words with Modric on the touchline, encouraging him to consider a move to Atletico. According to reports from DAZN, Simeone expressed:
“Luka! Luka! Join us & come play with us!”
If Modric were to make the switch, he would follow in the footsteps of players like Thibaut Courtois and Raul, who have previously represented both Madrid rivals.
Modric is set to become a free agent in the summer, marking the end of his tenure at Real Madrid since his €35 million move from Tottenham Hotspur in August 2012.
