Amon-Ra St. Brown expressed his disappointment during Thursday’s practice when addressing the media from his locker room stall. The standout wide receiver for the Detroit Lions revealed he was “hot” about not being chosen as an original selection for the Pro Bowl.
The NFC’s Pro Bowl wide receiver selections included CeeDee Lamb from Dallas, Mike Evans from Tampa Bay, A.J. Brown from Philadelphia, and Puka Nacua from the Los Angeles Rams. Despite acknowledging their talent, St. Brown admitted he was frustrated with the omission.
Having an outstanding season with eight 100-yard receiving games, tying him with Lamb and Tyreek Hill for the league lead, St. Brown has accumulated impressive stats of 112 receptions, 1,371 yards, and 10 touchdowns for the Lions, who secured their first division title since 1993 with an 11-5 record.
St. Brown’s 112 receptions tie with Hill for the second-most in the NFL this season and rank as the third-highest in a season for a Lions player, trailing only Herman Moore (123 in 1995) and Calvin Johnson (122 in 2012). Despite his remarkable performance, St. Brown expressed a sense of needing to do more.
With five of his Lions teammates earning Pro Bowl nods, including Sam LaPorta, Frank Ragnow, Aidan Hutchinson, Penei Sewell, and Jalen Reeves-Maybin (special teams), St. Brown acknowledged their achievements. Hutchinson, in particular, described his Pro Bowl selection as “amazing” and emphasized his current focus on the upcoming playoff run.
As a first alternate, St. Brown remains optimistic about the possibility of joining the Pro Bowl, especially if the Lions don’t advance to the Super Bowl. However, the 2021 fourth-round pick, who still remembers all 16 receivers drafted ahead of him at No. 112, sees this snub as motivation to push even harder.
“Yeah, gotta go harder,” St. Brown declared, determined to use the Pro Bowl omission as added fuel to his competitive fire.
