Serena Williams chose the name Adira for her second daughter, which carries the meaning of “noble, majestic, mighty, and powerful” in Hebrew.
In 2023, Williams announced her second pregnancy, and in August of the same year, she welcomed her daughter Adira into the world. Her husband, Alexis Ohanian, shared the joyous news on Instagram, expressing his gratitude for their new addition and the well-being of both mother and child.
He also described the heartwarming moment when their elder daughter, Olympia, met her baby sister for the first time.
“Welcome, Adira River Ohanian. I’m grateful to report our house is teaming with love: a happy & healthy newborn girl and happy & healthy mama. Feeling grateful. @serenawilliams you’ve now given me another incomparable gift — you’re the GMOAT,” Ohanian wrote.
“Thanks to all the amazing medical staff who took care of my wife & our daughter. I’ll never forget the moment I introduced @olympiaohanian to her baby sister. Your peace would have been like a river, your well-being like the waves of the sea,” he added.
Shortly after Adira’s birth, Serena Williams acknowledged the challenges of parenthood with two children and expressed her admiration for other parents facing similar situations.
“Having 2 kids is not easy. How do you moms/ dads do it so well!!!??? Especially when one gets sick? Mad respect,” the American wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
Serena Williams retired from professional tennis in August 2022, with the US Open marking her final tournament. Despite competing in both the singles and doubles events, she exited in the early rounds.
Her singles journey ended in the third round, where she was defeated by Ajla Tomljanovic after victories over Danka Kovinic and Anett Kontaveit.
