DJ LeMahieu, the third baseman for the New York Yankees, has injured his right foot, which will keep him out longer than expected. The 35-year-old player hurt his foot when he fouled a ball during a spring training game on March 16. He started the season on the 10-day injured list.

Manager Aaron Boone announced on Saturday that an MRI done on Friday revealed a fracture in the foot, which wasn’t initially detected due to swelling.

Boone mentioned that this doesn’t change their plans much and that it’s about LeMahieu’s ability to handle the pain as he gets back into playing shape. There’s no specific date for LeMahieu’s return, but Boone said they’ll do more tests in two weeks to check on his progress.

Despite the injury, LeMahieu has been feeling better lately and even practiced hitting in a cage on Friday. LeMahieu had struggled previously with a foot injury in 2022, which affected his performance. The team is cautious this time, aiming for him to fully recover before he returns to play.

LeMahieu, who won batting titles in 2016 and 2020, had a batting average of .243 with 15 home runs and 44 RBIs for the Yankees last season.

On the same day, the Yankees made other roster moves, including sending pitcher Clayton Beeter to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, promoting pitcher Tanner Tully from the RailRiders, and designating pitcher Nick Ramirez for assignment.
