NBC Sports Chicago reports that the Chicago Bears have made a significant move in acquiring wide receiver Keenan Allen, forming a formidable duo alongside DJ Moore.
General Manager Ryan Poles orchestrated the trade, surrendering a fourth-round pick to secure the services of the six-time Pro Bowler. DJ Moore, the Bears’ existing receiver, appears to be welcoming his new teammate.
The addition of a wide receiver was a primary focus for the Bears this offseason, and the acquisition of Allen surpasses expectations.
At 31 years old, Allen boasts an impressive track record, having amassed five 1,000+ yard seasons in the past seven years. In the previous season, he earned his sixth Pro Bowl selection after tallying 1,243 receiving yards (ranking 11th in the NFL) and seven touchdowns. Allen hauled in 108 passes (placing sixth in the NFL) out of 150 targets.
Initially, there were speculations regarding the Bears’ interest in Mike Williams, Allen’s former teammate in Los Angeles. However, Williams was released by the Chargers, thereby freeing up $20 million in cap space. Nonetheless, the acquisition of Allen for the cost of a fourth-round pick is perceived as a significant coup for the Bears.
