Austin Jackson has secured a lucrative contract extension with the Miami Dolphins following his impressive comeback in the 2023 season. The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport revealed on Thursday that Jackson is set to sign a three-year, $36 million deal, with a maximum value reaching $39 million, inclusive of $20.7 million in guaranteed money.

The Dolphins officially announced the extension, confirming Jackson’s commitment to the team until 2026. The agreement benefits both parties, considering Jackson’s outstanding performance this season. As a non-traditional blindside blocker on the right side of the line for left-handed quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, Jackson has earned his best overall grade (67.3), according to Pro Football Focus. Notably, his pass-blocking grade has exceeded 70, contributing to the team’s success and maintaining Tagovailoa’s protection, who has a history of injury issues.

Despite his stellar contributions, Jackson’s compensation reflects a fair deal. His annual average of $12 million ranks 28th among all tackles and 11th among right tackles, positioning him between Jack Conklin of the Cleveland Browns ($15 million per year) and Kaleb McGary of the Atlanta Falcons ($11.5 million per year), as reported by Over The Cap.

This extension is a significant raise for Jackson, nearly quadrupling his previous per-year rate of $3.41 million. It not only secures his future with the Dolphins but also streamlines the team’s roster management through 2024.

Jackson’s well-deserved raise stems from his successful recovery from an ankle injury that limited his playing time in 2022. He has returned stronger than ever, showcasing his value through exceptional on-field performance and reliability. As part of an offensive line that has allowed only 17 sacks on Tagovailoa this season, Jackson has played a crucial role in the team’s success.

The Dolphins’ stellar 9-3 record, leading the AFC East by three games with five left to play, is a testament to the effectiveness of Jackson and the offensive line. By locking in Jackson before the upcoming free agency period, Miami has strategically ensured the continued success of their key protector and solidified their foundation for future seasons.
