Dominique Badji scored a go-ahead goal in the 88th minute, and Gabriel Pirani added another in injury time, as D.C. United, who are struggling this season, defeated Toronto FC 3-1 on Saturday night.
Badji took a pass and made a strong shot into the net, beating Sean Johnson.
Pirani made sure of the victory when the ball deflected off a defender and came back to him near the top of the box. He shot it straight into the net.
Toronto was missing their star midfielder Federico Bernardeschi and their captain Jonathan Osorio.
The Reds had won six of their last eight matches in all competitions.
Martin Rodriguez scored first for D.C. United (7-12-9) in the 67th minute. His goal came from a free kick a few yards outside the box. The ball bounced around between Santos, Jared Stroud, and Ted Ku-DiPietro before landing at Rodriguez’s feet for an easy goal.
Deandre Kerr tied the game 1-1 for Toronto (10-15-4) in the 84th minute. Defender Aaron Herrera sent a pass into the box from just outside the penalty area, and Kerr headed it into the net.
