The Green Bay Packers were able to secure a road victory during a week when their receiving depth faced a significant challenge. They are optimistic about improving in that area going forward.
Packers coach Matt LaFleur mentioned on Monday that he had a “productive” meeting with Romeo Doubs and expects the third-year receiver to rejoin the team when they practice on Wednesday. Doubs received a one-game suspension for behavior not benefiting the team after he missed practice on Thursday and Friday.
“It’s a pretty isolated incident,” LaFleur said, not going into detail about his talk with Doubs. “This has not happened with him before and I don’t expect it to happen moving forward.”
The depth in receiving was one of the Packers’ strong points at the start of the season, but Green Bay (3-2) faced a shortage of targets on Sunday with Doubs suspended and Christian Watson out due to an ankle injury.
The leading receiver in their 24-19 win over the Los Angeles Rams was tight end Tucker Kraft, who made four catches for 88 yards. Jayden Reed was the top wide receiver, also with four catches for 78 yards, but the other wideouts on the team managed only 46 yards combined.
Jordan Love completed 15 of 26 passes for 224 yards, including two touchdown passes to Kraft, but he also threw his first career pick-6. Love has thrown five interceptions in his three starts this season.
“It just comes down to being smart with the ball, and I’ve got to do a better job with that,” Love said after the game.
That number of interceptions stands out because Love had previously done well at avoiding turnovers during his strong finish last season, which led to a four-year, $220 million contract extension this summer.
Love had thrown 21 touchdown passes with only one interception during a nine-game stretch that ended with the Packers’ 48-32 playoff upset of Dallas.
