Brenton Doyle broke the tie in the ninth inning with a sacrifice fly, helping the Colorado Rockies recover from a tough loss to defeat the Los Angeles Dodgers 7-6 on Wednesday night.

Doyle’s fly ball to center field was deep enough for Jake Cave to score from third base, securing the win for Colorado after they lost a five-run lead in the previous night’s game.

“I was aiming to get a pitch up in the strike zone so I could hit it deep enough to allow Jake to score,” Doyle explained.

Cave and Elhehuris Montero started the ninth inning with singles against Yohan Ramirez (0-3), and rookie Adael Amador, who had two hits, reached base on a fielder’s choice.

In Tuesday’s game, the Rockies suffered a tough loss when Teoscar Hernandez hit a three-run homer with two outs after the first-base umpire ruled he did not swing at strike three.

Cave expressed his emotions about the win, saying, “Baseball has its poetic moments, and tonight was a glimpse of that.

After the drama last night, being in the ninth inning with a tie game and runners on base, I had the chance to score the winning run.”

Michael Toglia hit a home run and a triple, while Jalen Beeks (3-3) pitched an inning in relief to help Colorado end a four-game losing streak.

Shohei Ohtani contributed with a double, a single, and three RBIs for the Dodgers, while Freddie Freeman also had two hits.

Bobby Miller made his first start since April 10 for Los Angeles, returning from an extended stint on the injured list due to shoulder inflammation.

After giving up a three-run homer to Toglia in the first inning, Miller settled down, and the Dodgers took a 4-3 lead in the second inning on Ohtani’s three-run double and Freeman’s RBI single.

“The adrenaline was high in the first inning. I got a couple of quick outs and then walked a batter with two outs,” Miller reflected. “I missed my spot on Toglia’s home run. If I had located the fastball differently, I might have only given up two runs.”
