English midfielder Tino Anjorin celebrated his first start for Empoli by assisting in the opening goal during a 2-0 victory at Cagliari in Serie A on Friday.
This win marked Empoli’s fifth match without a loss, making it the best start to a season in Serie A for the club.
Anjorin made his full debut after moving from Chelsea over the summer, and his clever pass set up Lorenzo Colombo for the first goal in the 33rd minute. Sebastiano Esposito scored a second goal just three minutes into the second half.
Cagliari has struggled recently, failing to score in their last three games and earning only two points from five matches.
In Verona, Torino climbed to the top of the league with a 3-2 victory. The home team had to play with 10 men for most of the match after Pawel Dawidowicz was sent off in the 21st minute.
Torino took an early lead in the 10th minute when poor defending let Antonio Sanabria breakthrough, and he scored easily.
Grigoris Kastanos quickly equalized just two minutes later with a fantastic shot that went into the net from 20 meters away.
Duvan Zapata restored Torino’s lead with a powerful header 12 minutes before halftime, and Scotland striker Che Adams added a third goal with a low shot from 25 meters out with 12 minutes left.
Daniel Mosquera scored a late goal for Verona during stoppage time.
Torino is one point ahead of Udinese and two points clear of Napoli, both of whom have played one game less.
