Nathan Eovaldi pitched for seven innings without allowing any runs and struck out eight batters. Corey Seager hit a home run, helping the Texas Rangers secure a 4-1 win against the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday.
Eovaldi, who has been performing well since last season’s postseason, gave up only four hits and one walk in his seven innings of pitching. He has only allowed two runs in 13 innings so far this season, giving him a low ERA of 1.38.
Seager’s home run broke the tie in the sixth inning against Aaron Civale, who gave up one run, four hits, and two walks while striking out eight batters in six innings. The Rangers added three more runs in the ninth inning, with Josh Smith hitting a two-run single.
Despite a late RBI single by Harold Ramírez against Rangers reliever Jose Leclerc, the Rays couldn’t catch up. The game ended with a groundout by Curtis Mead after a flyout by José Caballero.
