Three-time MLB All-Star and 2015 AL MVP Josh Donaldson has officially announced his retirement from baseball. The 13-season MLB veteran shared his decision during an interview on “The Mayor’s Office with Sean Casey” podcast.

Reflecting on his journey, Donaldson expressed mixed emotions, stating, “There was a time at the end of the season where I felt really good where I was at, and I wanted to try and give it one more go. But being home with the family, and getting married, today is a sad but also happy day for me.

I am going to announce my retirement from the game that I’ve dedicated my entire life around.”

The 38-year-old infielder, who played for the Milwaukee Brewers in a part-time capacity last season, began his MLB career with the Oakland A’s in 2010. Over the years, he also had stints with the Blue Jays, Cleveland, Atlanta Braves, Minnesota Twins, and New York Yankees before joining the Brewers.

Donaldson’s career was not without controversy, as he faced issues with teammates in Minnesota and received a fine and suspension from MLB in 2022 for a verbal altercation involving racial undertones.

Despite speculation about a potential reunion with the Blue Jays, Donaldson ultimately decided to hang up his cleats as spring training commenced and Opening Day approached.

With a career slash line of .261/.358/.489, along with 279 home runs, 816 RBI, and 40 stolen bases in 1,383 games, Donaldson leaves behind a legacy highlighted by his standout performances with the A’s and Blue Jays, where he earned three All-Star nods, including his stellar 2015 MVP season.
