Former Miami Dolphins and Indianapolis Colts cornerback Vontae Davis was discovered deceased in his South Florida residence on Monday, according to police. They stated that there was no indication of foul play.
Law enforcement in Davie, a suburb of Fort Lauderdale, reported that they were called to Davis’ home due to a medical issue on Monday morning. However, when they arrived, the 35-year-old was already deceased. The exact cause of death hasn’t been disclosed yet, pending further examination. Police mentioned that they are actively investigating the matter.
Davis, who was drafted by the Dolphins in 2009 from Illinois, played in the NFL for ten seasons. In a social media statement, the Dolphins expressed their sorrow over Davis’ unexpected passing and offered condolences to his family and loved ones.
After three seasons with Miami, Davis was traded to the Colts in 2012, where he spent six seasons. Colts owner Jim Irsay also conveyed his prayers for Davis’ family and shared a photo of Davis in a Colts uniform online.
The Colts, in a statement, expressed their devastation upon hearing the news of Davis’ passing. They praised him not only for his on-field performance but also for his positive demeanor as a teammate.
Although Davis briefly joined the Buffalo Bills in 2018, he retired from football after just two games, citing multiple injuries and surgeries as reasons for his decision.

Throughout his career, Davis played in 121 games, making 22 interceptions and scoring one touchdown. He earned Pro Bowl selections in 2014 and 2015 while playing for the Colts.
