Ezequiel Tovar heads up to the first base

Ezequiel Tovar hit a home run in his third consecutive game, breaking a tie with a two-run shot in the fifth inning, to help the Colorado Rockies defeat the San Francisco Giants 4-3 on Saturday night.

Kyle Freeland pitched six innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits. It was his fifth straight quality start since returning from a two-month stint on the injured list due to a left elbow strain on June 23.

He struck out four and walked one, securing consecutive wins for the first time this season. Freeland credited his ability to throw all his pitches for strikes, keeping the Giants’ hitters off balance.

“I was throwing strikes and getting ahead in counts, which is crucial as a starting pitcher,” Freeland said. “If we continue to execute like that, we’ll have more games like this where our starters go deep and we come out with wins.”

Tyler Fitzgerald slides into the second base

Tyler Fitzgerald, batting ninth, contributed with a double and a home run for two RBIs for the Giants. Wilmer Flores added an RBI double after Matt Chapman reached on Tovar’s fielding error in the sixth inning.

Logan Webb bounced back after a rough outing, allowing four runs on eight hits over six innings. He walked four and struck out four. “I need to improve. It’s frustrating how I’ve been pitching lately,” Webb said.

In the fifth inning, Sam Hilliard singled and Tovar followed with a home run off Webb’s slider, his 16th of the season. Tovar mentioned he knew it was gone when he heard the crowd’s reaction. The home run traveled 455 feet, the longest of his career.
