Freddy Fermin hit a two-run home run and collected four hits, leading the Kansas City Royals to a 10-3 victory over the White Sox on Wednesday. This loss extended Chicago’s record-setting losing streak to 17 games.
Vinnie Pasquantino contributed a two-run homer and had three RBIs. Salvador Perez, in his 1,500th career game, also drove in two runs and had three hits. The Royals secured their third win in a row.
Perez joked that Fermin had his first four-hit game because they talked before the game. Fermin enjoyed the joke and then focused on his performance.
“I just created my plan and tried to make a good swing and I did,” Fermin said. He is getting more playing time and has improved his batting average to .304. “I just want to continue to do that.”
Bobby Witt Jr., leading in batting average, extended his hitting streak to 13 games with two infield singles, raising his average to .349. He also walked twice, scored three runs, and stole his 24th base, helping to drive the Royals’ offense.
“That’s why they are the heart of the order,” said manager Matt Quatraro. “When they’re driving in runs and getting on base, we’re a deep lineup.”
For the White Sox, Andrew Benintendi drove in two runs with a double and had two hits. He suggested focusing on the next game to break the losing streak. Chicago’s current record is the worst in the league, and they are on track for a finish even worse than the 1962 New York Mets.
Brady Singer (8-6) pitched seven innings, allowing three runs on six hits. He struck out four and walked none, with the White Sox scoring their runs mainly in the second inning.
