Manchester City’s Phil Foden has been chosen as the Footballer of the Year in England. This recognition follows Foden’s remarkable season, where he scored 16 goals in the Premier League for the defending champions. He also contributed with 10 assists across all competitions for City.

Additionally, City celebrated a double win in individual awards as Khadija “Bunny” Shaw secured the women’s accolade.

Foden received 42% of the votes, surpassing Arsenal’s Declan Rice and City’s Rodri, who came second and third respectively.

“I aim to give my best every day, and credit goes to the manager and my teammates for their continuous efforts to improve,” said Foden. “Now, my focus is on finishing the season strongly and helping City win more trophies.”

Managed by the Football Writers’ Association, the award has been claimed by City players three times in the last four years, with Erling Haaland winning it last year and Ruben Diaz in 2021. The inaugural winner was England legend Stanley Matthews in 1948.

Shaw becomes the second City player to secure the women’s award, following Nikita Parris in 2019.

This marks the second instance in five years that City has achieved the double, with Raheem Sterling also clinching the prize in 2019.

Jamaican international Shaw, who scored 21 goals in 18 league matches this season, outperformed Chelsea’s Lauren James to secure the award, garnering 53% of the votes. City’s Alex Greenwood and Yui Hasegawa claimed the third and fourth spots respectively.
