Rangers manager Philippe Clement has extended his contract at Ibrox until 2028 just before the new Scottish league season begins.

The 50-year-old Belgian’s original contract was set to end in 2027.

Rangers’ season starts with a match against Hearts on Saturday. The team has won 55 league titles, one more than their rival Celtic from Glasgow.

Clement took over from Michael Beale last October and improved the team’s performance, including winning the League Cup, and briefly put Rangers in the title race before Celtic pulled ahead in the final stages.

“I have a really open and transparent relationship with the board,” Clement said on Rangers’ website after his new deal was announced on Friday. “I have fallen in love with the club, with the fans, the stadium, and with the city.”
