Former Arsenal star Adrian Clarke believes that midfielder Jorginho is set to maintain his prominent role in the team under Mikel Arteta’s reign.
Clarke, now a pundit for talkSPORT, emphasizes Jorginho’s growing importance to the Gunners, asserting that he will likely retain his starting position even with the potential return of Thomas Partey.
Jorginho’s impressive performances this season have elevated his status at Arsenal, particularly highlighted by his commanding display in their recent 4-1 victory over Newcastle United in the Premier League.
Clarke commends Jorginho’s consistency and labels him a pivotal figure in big matches against formidable opponents like Manchester United, Manchester City, and Tottenham Hotspur.
“I thought Jorginho was also brilliant in the game at the weekend,” remarked Clarke during a talkSPORT segment. “He has become Mikel Arteta’s big-game player, and I think the league title prospects for Arsenal will be decided by how they perform at the Etihad, how they perform at Old Trafford, how they perform at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.”
Clarke further expressed his conviction that Jorginho’s inclusion in the lineup for such crucial fixtures is likely, despite the impending return of Thomas Partey. According to Clarke, Jorginho’s contributions to the field and his experience make him indispensable to the team’s success.
“I have got a feeling that Jorginho is going to be drafted in for most of those games. I know Thomas Partey is returning to fitness, but I don’t know how you can leave Jorginho out at the moment,” Clarke asserted. “He is doing a terrific job in there. He adds a bit of nous and experience alongside all these young players.”
Jorginho has made 25 appearances for Arsenal across various competitions this season, showcasing not only his statistical contributions, but also his integral role in orchestrating play from the midfield and fostering cohesion within the team.
