Serena Williams’ childhood coach Rick Macci recently offered insights into his discussions with the Williams sisters’ father, Richard, during the 1990s.
Rick Macci, a certified coach with the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA), had been working closely with future World No. 1 Jennifer Capriati in the early 1990s before joining forces with Venus and Serena Williams in 1991.
Throughout their collaboration, Macci engaged in frequent conversations with Richard Williams, who was deeply committed to propelling his daughters to the pinnacle of women’s tennis. According to Macci, Richard harbored lofty ambitions, aspiring for both sisters to claim the coveted World No. 1 ranking in singles.
Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) account, the renowned American coach revealed Richard’s unwavering dedication, emphasizing how every interaction and every day revolved around the shared goal of achieving top rankings in the WTA Tour.
“The Number One thing I loved about the Man on a Mission, my best friend (at times) Richard Williams, was Every Single Conversation Every Single Day was about being Number One in Singles. @serenawilliams @Venuseswilliams,” Macci shared on X.
For those unfamiliar, Macci and Richard crossed paths at Macci’s academy in Boca Raton last November. Reflecting on their collaboration, Macci commemorated the partnership with a video shared on his social media platforms, underscoring the transformative impact they had on tennis history.
