NaVorro Bowman, a former linebacker, had his most successful years playing under coach Jim Harbaugh. During his four seasons with Harbaugh on the San Francisco 49ers, Bowman earned three first-team All-Pro honors. Now reunited as coach and assistant coach with the Chargers, Bowman feels they’re a perfect fit.
“Being a player under Coach Harbaugh was fantastic,” Bowman said. “We were all bummed when he left the 49ers. I’m just grateful to be here and for him trusting me with this coaching job.”
Bowman explained that Harbaugh pushed him to be his best, and now he’s using those same coaching techniques to get the best results from the Chargers’ linebackers.
Bowman said he gave his all on the field for Harbaugh, crediting the coach’s pre-game talks and preparation for making the players understand their roles.
“Understanding Coach Harbaugh’s message and getting his approval on my play was important to me,” Bowman said. “Now, my job is to get these guys to play that way, to do what Coach expects from them. I believe I can do that, I feel like a good fit here. The players seem to be happy with everything so far.”
Bowman hopes the Chargers’ linebackers will find playing under him as rewarding as he found playing under Harbaugh.
