Former Manchester City star Riyad Mahrez found himself in a humorous situation when organizing his farewell party before departing for Saudi Arabia in the summer of 2023.
A clip from the show “Married To The Game” by Amazon Prime captured the amusing incident, shedding light on the lives of footballers’ partners. In the clip, Mahrez, 33, inadvertently shared the invite for his farewell bash with his Manchester City teammates before promptly exiting the group chat, as per protocol upon leaving the club.
His wife, Taylor Ward, recounted the incident, explaining that Mahrez had to leave the group chat upon learning of his departure. She shared:
“When Riyad Mahrez found out he was leaving, you have to leave the group chat (Manchester City). So the last message he sent on the group chat was the invite to the party. He sent the message and then left the group.”
Ward humorously revealed that Mahrez exited the chat before anyone could respond, leaving them in the dark about who would attend the event. She recalled confronting him about the mishap, saying:
“So I was like you left the group before anyone responded? So you don’t know who’s coming.”
Mahrez’s response to the situation was simple yet optimistic:
“I think all the players will come, I think 20 players.”
During his five-season tenure at Manchester City, Mahrez made significant contributions, scoring 78 goals and providing 59 assists in 236 appearances across various competitions. He secured four Premier League titles and one UEFA Champions League trophy during his time at the Etihad Stadium, among other accolades.
