Former Wales captain Craig Bellamy was chosen as the coach of the national team until 2028 on Tuesday.
“This is the proudest moment of my career,” said Bellamy, who stopped playing in 2014. “It was always my ultimate dream.”
Bellamy, who was a fast forward with Liverpool, Manchester City, and Newcastle, most recently worked as an assistant coach at Burnley in the English Premier League. This will be his first major coaching job.
He played 78 matches for Wales from 1998 to 2014, leading the team from 2007 to 2010.
Bellamy’s first match in charge will be against Turkey in the Nations League.
Wales has been without a coach since Robert Page left in June after the team didn’t qualify for the European Championship.
Page did guide Wales to the 2022 World Cup, marking the team’s return to that tournament for the first time since 1958.
