Jordan McCabe is Heading to Green Bay

Former West Virginia University guard and assistant coach Jordan McCabe has been appointed to the UW-Green Bay men’s basketball staff. The announcement was made by the University of Wisconsin Green Bay’s head coach, Sundance Wicks, on Monday afternoon.

Wicks expressed excitement over McCabe’s return to his home state, stating that McCabe’s ability to connect with players both on and off the court was a key factor in the decision. He emphasized the importance of transformation in the program and highlighted McCabe’s capacity to foster connectedness and competitiveness among players and coaches alike.

Wicks praised McCabe’s transition from player to coach, noting his experience across multiple levels of play and his dedication to teaching, motivating, and imparting life skills through basketball.

He lauded McCabe’s expertise in player development, emphasizing his utilization of training techniques that directly translate to game performance. Wicks emphasized McCabe’s alignment with the values of the Green Bay program, describing him as “gritty, grateful, and ready to GET AFTER IT!”

During his time at West Virginia University from 2019 to 2021, McCabe showcased his skills both as a facilitator and a scorer. He led the Mountaineers in assists during his freshman year and amassed a total of 178 assists over his WVU career.

Notably, McCabe achieved a rare feat in college basketball, recording 25 points, 11 assists, and six steals in a single game against TCU. Following his tenure at WVU, McCabe transferred to UNLV for his final two years of eligibility, where he contributed an average of 6.0 points and 3.3 assists per game across two seasons.

Coming from his hometown of Kaukauna, Wisconsin, McCabe’s return to his roots represents a noteworthy moment in his coaching journey. Joining the UW-Green Bay coaching staff marks a homecoming for McCabe, who brings with him a wealth of experience gained both as a player and a coach.

With his strong ties to the state and a track record of success in player development, McCabe’s arrival is anticipated to strengthen UW-Green Bay’s basketball program and enhance its competitive edge in the future.
