LaNorris Sellers passed for 307 yards, threw three touchdowns, and had only four incompletions to lead No. 19 South Carolina to a 56-12 victory over Wofford on Saturday night.
While the Gamecocks (8-3, 5-3 SEC, No. 18 CFP) didn’t play their cleanest game, with two turnovers, unnecessary penalties, and missed assignments, they finished the game without any serious injuries.
“The first quarter wasn’t good in many ways. But we stayed calm in the locker room. There was no yelling or throwing chairs,” South Carolina coach Shane Beamer said.
South Carolina scored 35 points in the second half and let their starters rest for most of the fourth quarter.
Sellers, the redshirt freshman, continues to develop into one of the best quarterbacks in the league. He completed 23 of his 27 passes to nine different receivers. When nothing was open, Sellers ran the ball, averaging over 4 yards per carry on 13 runs.
Beamer said he’s been impressed with how Sellers has grown, especially in the past three weeks. Sellers expressed gratitude for the trust his coaches have in him, including allowing him to call his own number on a touchdown sneak.
“It’s about staying calm in the pocket and being confident in my decisions. If I make a decision, it’s the right one,” Sellers said.
Raheim Sanders ran for 72 yards, and Dalevon Campbell caught five passes for 120 yards for the Gamecocks.
Wofford (5-7) took a 3-0 lead and intercepted Sellers on his first possession, but their success was short-lived. The Terriers have now lost 18 straight games to South Carolina, with their last win coming in 1917.
