Genoa midfielder Ruslan Malinovskyi suffered a terrible lower leg fracture during his team’s game against Venezia on Saturday.
Malinovskyi tried to clear the ball near his goal early in the second half when his studs got caught in the turf, causing his right ankle to twist awkwardly.
The 31-year-old Ukraine international was clearly in pain as he lay on the field, and his goalkeeper quickly came over to comfort him.
Most of his teammates rushed to his side, and many had their heads in their hands after seeing how serious the injury was, with Malinovskyi’s foot turned in an unnatural direction.
He received prompt medical attention and was carried off the field on a stretcher, drawing applause from everyone in the stadium.
