George Kirby pitched seven scoreless innings, allowing only three hits. Luke Raley hit a two-run homer and drove in three runs, helping the Seattle Mariners secure a 6-2 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Monday night.
The game started with a fan catching foul balls on back-to-back pitches, setting the stage for an eventful evening. Kirby, who had been dealing with a sore knee, delivered an exceptional performance despite some early struggles.
He managed to escape a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the first inning, showing determination and resilience.
Kirby allowed just one hit after the first inning until the fifth inning, striking out six batters and issuing no walks. It was his third game this season where he pitched at least six innings without conceding a run.
Mariners manager Scott Servais praised Kirby’s performance, describing it as “vintage” despite initial frustrations. Raley’s two-run homer, his second of the season, added to the Mariners’ momentum after Cal Raleigh’s double in the second inning.
Raley’s blast, estimated at 432 feet, also caused some excitement as he seemingly broke the celebratory trident used by the team for home runs.
