Eisen: Giants Are ‘Absolutely Done’ with Daniel Jones, Have ‘Buyer’s Remorse’

Last offseason, the New York Giants secured quarterback Daniel Jones with a lucrative four-year contract extension. However, recent rumblings suggest the organization might be pivoting away from him sooner than expected.

On Monday’s installment of The Rich Eisen Show, Rich Eisen disclosed that during last week’s NFL Scouting Combine, he heard murmurs indicating the Giants’ definitive stance on Jones: “they are absolutely done with Daniel Jones.” Eisen further revealed a sense of regret within the team over Jones’ hefty $160 million deal inked just last offseason.

Eisen elaborated, sharing insights from the combine: “Might have to play him this year, but that ain’t it, and they feel that ain’t it. The words I heard at the combine multiple times, two words were ‘buyer’s remorse.'” However, Eisen acknowledged the possibility of his assessment being off the mark or unfair.

Jones’ 2023 season was marred by a torn ACL in his right knee, limiting him to just six games. Before his injury, he managed 909 passing yards, two touchdowns, and six interceptions, contributing to the team’s 1-5 record.

The Giants originally selected Jones as the sixth overall pick in the 2019 NFL draft. Interestingly, they currently hold the No. 6 pick in the upcoming 2024 draft, which boasts a strong crop of quarterback prospects including Caleb Williams from USC, Drake Maye from UNC, and Jayden Daniels from LSU.

While Jones has exhibited glimpses of promise as a starting quarterback, inconsistency has plagued his career. Given this backdrop, it’s reasonable for the Giants to contemplate a reset at the quarterback position this offseason, potentially by drafting their future signal-caller.
