Tyler Glasnow equaled his personal best with 14 strikeouts over seven shutout innings, guiding the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 6-3 victory against the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday evening.
James Outman and Will Smith both smashed three-run homers as the Dodgers secured their third win in four games. Mookie Betts drew three walks and crossed the plate once.
Glasnow (3-0) concluded the seventh inning by striking out Matt Wallner, achieving 14 strikeouts for the third time in his career. He previously achieved this milestone with the Tampa Bay Rays against the Red Sox last season and the Texas Rangers in April 2021.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts commended Glasnow’s performance, describing it as one of his most dominant outings of the year.
Outman’s home run marked his second in as many games, reaching the center-field batter’s eye against Louie Varland (0-2) in the fourth inning. Smith delivered his first home run of the season in the fifth, bringing in Betts and Freddie Freeman with a shot to the opposite field in right.
With Glasnow’s stellar pitching, the Dodgers enjoyed a comfortable lead throughout the game. Glasnow consistently kept the Twins’ hitters at bay, striking out multiple batters in all but the first inning.
He conceded only three hits and issued no walks, needing just 88 pitches to complete seven innings.
Remarkably, Glasnow became the first pitcher since 1988 to achieve at least 14 strikeouts while throwing fewer than 88 pitches.
Glasnow also joined an elite group of seven Dodgers pitchers who recorded at least 14 strikeouts without issuing any walks in a game. Twins manager Rocco Baldelli lauded Glasnow’s performance, acknowledging the challenge he posed to their batters.
After Glasnow’s departure, the Twins managed to score three runs with home runs from Ryan Jeffers, Carlos Correa, and Alex Kirilloff. However, their efforts fell short as the Dodgers maintained their lead.
The Twins, still seeking their first home win of the season, have struggled to score runs, managing only five in their four home games.
Twins left fielder Austin Martin celebrated his first major league hit with a double in the third inning, followed by another double in the sixth off Glasnow.
