Goalkeeper Ederson has been forced to withdraw from Brazil’s squad after sustaining a right thigh injury during Manchester City’s match against Liverpool. Consequently, he will be unavailable for Brazil’s upcoming friendly matches against England and Spain.
Ederson’s departure from the field occurred during the 56th minute of Sunday’s English Premier League encounter at Anfield. Brazil’s coach, Dorival Júnior, opted to substitute him with Léo Jardim from Vasco da Gama.
The national team is scheduled to face England on March 23 at Wembley Stadium and Spain three days later at Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.
Júnior revealed that two more players, Marquinhos from Paris Saint-Germain and Gabriel Martinelli from Arsenal, are sidelined due to injuries.
They have been replaced by Fabrício Bruno, a left-back from Flamengo, and Galeno, a striker from Porto, respectively. Dorival Júnior assumed his role in January amidst a series of disappointing outcomes.
The situation further deteriorated last month when Brazil failed to secure qualification for the Paris Olympics, resulting in the sidelining of the reigning champion.
