Packers quarterback Jordan Love demonstrated his abilities on Sunday, showing how well he can perform when all his receivers are healthy.
However, it’s unclear if this group will stay at full strength moving forward.
Dontayvion Wicks left the Packers’ 34-13 win against the Arizona Cardinals with a shoulder injury. Coach Matt LaFleur didn’t have a clear update on Wicks’ condition on Monday.
“We’ll give him through the week and see where he’s at,” LaFleur said. “I just know it’s always a concern when you have a player that can’t go back in the game.”
Love had his best performance of the season, taking advantage of Romeo Doubs returning from suspension and Christian Watson coming back from an ankle injury. Neither Doubs nor Watson played in the Packers’ previous game, a 24-19 victory over the Los Angeles Rams.
After throwing eight touchdown passes and five interceptions in his first three games this season, Love threw four touchdown passes and had just one interception against the Cardinals.
He also completed 68.8% of his passes, marking the first time this season he reached 60% or higher.
“I think we’ve just got to keep building upon it, you know?” Love said after the game. “Build off this win, this performance, go back, handle business this week throughout practice, and we’ve got a really good team (the Houston Texans) coming in here next week.”
Two of Love’s touchdown passes went to Doubs, who missed the previous game due to his suspension. Love also connected with Watson for a 44-yard touchdown.
Love’s only interception wasn’t really his fault. In rainy conditions during the first half, intended receiver Bo Melton slipped late in the second quarter. With Melton on the ground, Love’s pass was intercepted by Arizona’s Sean Murphy-Bunting.
Besides that, Love avoided other turnovers, which had been a problem for him earlier.
After missing two games due to an injury to his left knee, Love had thrown three interceptions in a 31-29 loss to Minnesota and also had his first career pick-6 against the Rams.
His performance on Sunday was similar to a strong finish he had last season, where he threw 21 touchdown passes and only one interception in a nine-game stretch that ended with a wild-card playoff win at Dallas.
“He’s playing with a lot of confidence,” LaFleur said on Sunday.
