Hunter Greene pitched well for seven innings, Will Benson smashed a two-run homer, and the Cincinnati Reds recovered from a tough loss to beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 6-2 on Tuesday night.
The Reds suffered a frustrating 6-5 defeat against the Diamondbacks on Monday, but they turned the tables in this game. They scored six runs between the fourth and sixth innings, fueled by 13 hits.
“We knew we had the potential to turn things around,” Benson commented. “These last three days show how we’ve been working hard together as a team.”
Benson’s homer off Slade Cecconi in the fifth inning was a highlight, and the Reds added more runs with two pinch-hit singles in the sixth inning, securing only their second win in 13 games.
Greene, with a 2-2 record, gave a solid performance, allowing just two runs and five hits while striking out five and walking one. “It was important for the team to bounce back,” Greene said. “We’ve been sticking to our process, focusing on doing our jobs.”
Arizona’s offense struggled, managing only six hits, with Blaze Alexander’s two-run single being their main highlight. However, they failed to capitalize on their opportunities, leaving only three baserunners after Alexander’s hit.
“There are some areas we can improve on,” noted Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo. “We need to improve our base running and hitting cutoff men better—these small details matter.”
