Bryce Harper smacked a three-run homer, while Alec Bohm extended his hitting streak to 18 games as the Philadelphia Phillies secured a 5-4 win against the San Francisco Giants on Sunday night. J.T. Realmuto contributed with three hits for the Phillies, who are on a hot streak, winning nine out of 10 and 16 out of 19 games.
With a record of 24-11, they currently hold the best record in the MLB, marking their best start in 35 games since 1995.
Philadelphia’s home winning streak of nine games matches the longest in the league this season. Additionally, they’ve won 10 consecutive games against NL West opponents, equaling a franchise record. Phillies manager Rob Thomson highlighted the team’s motivation to perform well early in the season, compared to previous years when they heated up later.
Thairo Estrada hit a two-run homer and Michael Conforto added an RBI double for the Giants, who have faced setbacks lately, losing three games in a row and five out of six.
Harper’s home run came in the third inning off Logan Webb’s 1-1 changeup, marking his seventh homer of the season. Harper has hit home runs in five games this year, and each time, the Phillies emerged victorious.
“Against Webb, I think our offense had a solid strategy,” Harper commented. “Our starting pitchers have been performing really well, so when we can score runs to support them, we have a good chance of winning.”
Bohm extended his hitting streak with a double off Taylor Rogers in his last at-bat, marking the longest streak in the MLB this season.
Taijuan Walker (2-0) gave up three runs and five hits over 6 1/3 innings in his second start of the season. He struck out seven batters and walked one.
“I felt like I was placing my pitches really well today,” Walker said. “All of my pitches, especially my splitter, were better today compared to my last start. It was great, and it’s much easier when the offense scores runs early in the game.”
Despite giving up a solo home run to Jackson Reetz in the ninth inning, Jose Alvarado secured his seventh save. It was Reetz’s first home run in the major leagues. Edmundo Sosa and Bryson Stott also contributed with RBI hits for Philadelphia.
