Harry Kane celebrated his 100th game for England by scoring twice in a 2-0 victory over Finland in the UEFA Nations League on Tuesday.
He received a golden cap before the match and wore gold boots at Wembley Stadium. Kane’s first goal came when he skillfully got past a Finnish defender and took a strong shot that hit the underside of the crossbar.
His second goal was set up by Noni Madueke, one of England’s new players. Kane’s shot took a slight deflection but still pleased the crowd, which gave him a standing ovation when he was substituted.
Kane shared his thoughts with ITV, saying, “It was a big night for me, obviously really proud to reach 100 caps. I want to score goals, I want to help the team.”
This win marked the second consecutive 2-0 victory for interim England manager Lee Carsley, who stepped in after Gareth Southgate resigned following England’s loss to Spain in the Euro 2024 final. Carsley might continue in this role if the search for Southgate’s permanent replacement takes longer than expected.
England, competing in the second tier of the Nations League, is tied with Greece at the top of their group with six points. Greece won 2-0 against Ireland.
