Mikel Arteta and Kai Havertz praised midfielder Jorginho following Arsenal’s commanding 4-1 victory over Newcastle United in the Premier League on February 24.
The Gunners extended their impressive league streak, securing their sixth consecutive win with a dominant performance against Newcastle at home on Saturday. Sven Botman’s own goal in the 18th minute gave them the lead, followed by Kai Havertz’s goal in the 24th minute to make it 2-0.
Bukayo Saka (65′) and Jakub Kiwior (69′) added two more goals before former Arsenal player Joe Willock (84′) scored a consolation goal for the Magpies.
Jorginho, making his 12th start of the season across competitions, delivered a stellar performance for the Gunners. He completed 92 out of 103 passes, made one key pass, won 4 out of 7 duels, and recorded one interception.
After the match, Havertz praised Jorginho, stating:
“I know him well, so it’s nice to play with him. He understands me, which makes my job easier. He’s a world-class player.”
In response to Havertz’s recognition of Jorginho’s world-class status, manager Mikel Arteta commented:
“He is certainly… He’s a top player, especially when the opponents have certain behaviors or certain set-ups. The way I can imagine the game, he is going to have a big impact, but I think you have to do it at this level, and when he’s not playing consistently, credit to him because he was magnificent today, again.”
Jorginho has made 25 appearances across competitions this season, contributing one goal and one assist. However, he is expected to depart Arsenal at the end of the season when his contract expires.
