Eugenio Suárez and Gabriel Moreno hit back-to-back home runs in the second inning. Ketel Marte’s single in the seventh inning gave the Arizona Diamondbacks the lead, and they won 4-3 against the San Diego Padres on Thursday night. This victory marked their fifth win in six games.
On the other hand, the Padres faced their fifth consecutive loss, matching their longest losing streak of the season. They were previously swept in a series against the Los Angeles Angels, who hold the second-worst record in the AL.
The Padres had several opportunities to score, but they couldn’t capitalize, even in the eighth inning when pinch-hitter Manny Machado grounded out with runners in scoring position. Machado didn’t start due to a mild hip flexor strain sustained during the previous game.
Fernando Tatis Jr. had an impressive performance, with singles, a double, and tying of the Padres’ record with hits in eight consecutive at-bats. However, in his fourth at-bat, he grounded out. The Padres struggled with runners in scoring position, going 1 for 14 and leaving 10 runners stranded.
Kevin Ginkel earned the win, while Jeremiah Estrada took the loss. Paul Sewald secured his seventh save by striking out Jake Cronenworth with a runner on second base to end the game.
Reflecting on the game, Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo praised his team’s resilience and the way they executed their game plan. He highlighted the excitement in the dugout after securing the win.
