Novak Djokovic has shared his perspective on his portrayal in ATP’s recent parody skit video. The video features various ATP players, including Djokovic himself, depicted as fictional characters rather than their real selves.
In the skit, Djokovic is represented as a character named ‘Bert Critchley’, who discusses his approach to portraying the 24-time Grand Slam champion. Reflecting on his tenure as part of the ‘ATP seasons’, Djokovic, in character as Critchley, remarks:
“I’ve been part of this show for 16, 17 years, or ‘ATP seasons’ as we call them.”
He goes on to discuss the depth he aims to bring to his portrayal of the ‘Novak’ character, emphasizing the importance of conveying personality beyond mere tennis accomplishments:
“Something that I’m trying to evoke with this Novak character is not just the performance and the achievements, but a bit more of an essence, a bit more personality.”
Djokovic also shares insights into his efforts to humanize the character, making him relatable to audiences:
“I try to have people relate to him. I want to bring truth to Novak, you know, what is he thinking? What is he feeling? What would motivate him if he was a real person?”
Concluding his remarks, ‘Critchley’ acknowledges the challenges of portraying Djokovic’s character but expresses satisfaction with the outcome:
“Not easy, but you know…it works.”
