Team India batsman Hanuma Vihari has decided to part ways with his state team Andhra following a dispute with the Andhra Cricket Association (ACA). Andhra’s campaign in the 2024 Ranji Trophy came to an end in the quarterfinals with a narrow four-run defeat against Madhya Pradesh.
Initially leading the side as captain, Vihari faced the disappointment of being asked to step down later in the season. Despite a valiant effort in the quarterfinal match, where he scored a gritty half-century in the second innings, Andhra fell short by a narrow margin.
Taking to his official Instagram account after the loss, Vihari reflected on the season, expressing his disappointment at the team’s exit from the tournament. However, he also shed light on the underlying reason for his decision to part ways with Andhra.
Vihari revealed an incident involving a substitute player, who happened to be the son of a local politician. He recounted how he faced repercussions after admonishing the player during a game against Bengal, leading to pressure from the player’s influential father and subsequent action from the association.
Expressing his dismay at the situation, Vihari highlighted the lack of respect and understanding shown towards him by the association. Despite feeling embarrassed and humiliated, he continued to play out of respect for the game and his teammates.
However, Vihari ultimately decided to take a stand for his self-respect and announced his decision to sever ties with Andhra. While expressing his love for the team and its growth over the years, he lamented the association’s attitude towards players and their treatment of him, leading to his departure from the team.
