Barcelona defender Andreas Christensen appears committed to remaining with the Catalan club for the foreseeable future.
The Denmark international joined the Blaugrana from Chelsea in the summer of 2022 on a free transfer. He played a pivotal role in Barcelona’s triumph in La Liga during the 2022/23 season, making 23 appearances in the competition and contributing with a goal and an assist each.
Continuing to be a prominent figure for Barcelona, Christensen has featured in 30 matches across various competitions this year. In a recent interview with Spanish outlet SPORT, Christensen expressed his commitment to the club, stating (via Barca Universal):
“I’m not going anywhere. When I came, I knew what I was getting into and I’m still incredibly happy. I don’t see myself anywhere other than here after the summer.”
This season, under Xavi’s management, Christensen has occasionally been deployed in a holding midfield role, despite being a natural central defender. Reflecting on his experience in this position, the 27-year-old remarked:
“It had been a long time since I had played in this position and of course, I have to get used to many things. But I really enjoy it.””I have to keep the balance in front of the defence. Fill the space that remains behind the forwards both when we are with the ball and when we are not with the ball.”
Currently, Christensen remains under contract with Barcelona until the summer of 2026.
