BBC pundit Clinton Morrison has urged Chelsea to consider signing Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson, suggesting that the English forward could offer good value for the Blues.

Reports indicate that Chelsea are prepared to spend €21 million (£18 million) to secure Wilson’s services, with Newcastle also looking to offload him in January to comply with FFP regulations.

However, Chelsea may face competition from Arsenal and Manchester United, both of whom have been made aware of Wilson’s availability, as per the Evening Standard.

Morrison has emphasized the importance of Chelsea’s pursuit of Wilson, particularly if the striker is available at the mentioned price. He stated (as quoted by TBR Football):

“Chelsea need a centre forward, Cole Palmer is not a centre forward. They were linked to Callum Wilson and if you can get him for £18 million, I’d bite your hand off.”

Wilson has contributed eight goals and one assist in 20 appearances across competitions for Newcastle this season. However, he has encountered injury setbacks, including hamstring issues that saw him miss ten games earlier in the campaign, and he is currently sidelined due to a calf injury.

While Chelsea have been linked with other strikers like Ivan Toney from Brentford and Victor Osimhen from Napoli, the latter recently signed a contract extension, making a January move unlikely.

Reflecting on Chelsea’s goalless draw against Aston Villa in the FA Cup fourth round, manager Pochettino acknowledged the need for attacking reinforcements. He noted that both teams struggled to score despite having talented attackers, emphasizing the difficulty of facing a team like Aston Villa.

Despite the draw, Pochettino expressed confidence in his players’ ability to score, pointing to their recent 6-1 victory in the Carabao Cup semi-final against Middlesbrough. The Blues are gearing up to face Liverpool at Anfield on January 31st.
