Nebraska plans to sell alcohol at Memorial Stadium in 2025, pending approval from the university’s Board of Regents at their next meeting.

This proposal is on the agenda for the meeting in Kearney next Friday, and it was first reported by The Omaha World-Herald.

If approved, Nebraska would be the last of the 18 Big Ten schools to allow alcohol sales at football games. Northwestern, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Michigan State started selling alcohol in their stadiums this year.

The Nebraska plan would permit sales at all athletic events across its three campuses with sports programs. A part of the profits would go towards education and services for alcohol abuse.

An Associated Press survey of power-conference schools and Notre Dame found that, as of last November, 55 out of 69 schools sold alcohol in public areas of their stadiums during games.

This number has increased to at least 57 with the announcements from Northwestern and Wisconsin this summer about selling in general seating areas.

Nebraska athletic director Troy Dannen did not respond right away to a request for comment.

Related news includes stories about star quarterbacks preparing for a rematch in the SEC Championship Game, Alex Grinch returning to the Coliseum a year after being fired, and No. 12 Michigan hosting Minnesota, likely focusing on their running game.

Former athletic director Trev Alberts mentioned in 2022 that the 101-year-old Memorial Stadium lacked the right setup for alcohol sales. He suggested that alcohol probably wouldn’t be sold until the stadium was renovated.

While plans for a major renovation have been delayed, Dannen told the World-Herald that necessary upgrades for alcohol sales would happen after this football season.
