New Orleans Pelicans’ standout Zion Williamson expressed his willingness to participate in the NBA dunk contest, but with a caveat: he must first secure a spot in the All-Star game.

Following his 16-point performance in a decisive victory over Toronto on Tuesday, Williamson addressed the possibility of competing in the dunk contest in the future, stating, “I’ve got to do my part and make the All-Star game. If I’m in the All-Star game, I’ll do the dunk contest. If I’m not, I’m not doing it.”

Williamson earned his first All-Star selection in 2021 but was sidelined for the subsequent season due to a foot injury. Despite being named an All-Star again last year, he was unable to participate due to a hamstring injury.

While G League guard Mac McClung retained his dunk title last month, Williamson showcased his prowess against the Raptors with nine assists and eight rebounds. He particularly impressed fans with a powerful fast-break dunk late in the second quarter.

Reflecting on the game, Williamson acknowledged teammate Brandon Ingram’s remarkable dunk to start the second half, acknowledging, “You’ve got to give it to BI. He hit them with the cross, sent that person out of the picture, and then he dunked over somebody.”
