Donna Vekic’s coach, Pam Shriver, had a lighthearted response to a spelling error in a graphic during Vekic’s recent match at the San Diego Open.
Vekic secured a victory against Katherine Hui with a score of 7-5, 6-2 in the first round on Wednesday. Throughout the match, Vekic demonstrated strong performance, winning 67% of points from her first serve and converting an impressive 70% of her 10 break point opportunities.
During the match, the camera focused on Shriver, who was present in the stands supporting Vekic. However, the graphic displayed on the screen misspelled her surname as ‘Schriver’. Despite the error, Shriver, donning a beanie with the Baltimore Orioles logo, took the mistake in stride.
Following the match, Shriver humorously addressed the misspelling on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). She expressed her amusement, noting that she is not the best speller herself, and was just pleased that Vekic’s name was spelled correctly in the graphic.
She showed support for the MLB team, the Baltimore Orioles, of which she is a minority owner.
Shriver, a native of Baltimore and a 21-time women’s doubles Major winner has coached Vekic since 2022. Under her guidance, Vekic achieved notable success, including reaching the quarterfinals of the 2023 Australian Open and securing victory at the Monterrey Open last year.
