Jiri Smejkal got his first-ever goal during the second period, and shortly after, Jakob Chychrun scored again for Ottawa, helping the Senators secure a 3-1 win against the Boston Bruins on Tuesday night, which marked the end of the regular season for both teams.
Artem Zub sealed the victory with an empty-net goal just under two minutes before the final buzzer, while Anton Forsberg made 34 saves for Ottawa.
This win prevented Boston from sweeping the Senators in their three-game season series and dashed the Bruins’ hopes of clinching the Atlantic Division title.
Despite Pavel Zacha’s goal for Boston, the Bruins couldn’t recover from the early deficit. Linus Ullmark made 17 saves for the Bruins in the losing effort.
